251. White Lies – Getting Even

From the fantastic “Big TV” album released in 2013, “Getting Even” is a gloriously jangly number, taking a healthy dose of 80s influence mixed with a soaring chorus. A pained love song (it kind of sounds like a girlfriend getting angry after having a dream you’ve cheated on her – we’ve all been there…), it’s sadly an underrated album from the Ealing band – only 12k sales so far is criminal.

If you’re getting uneven…

189. Disclosure – You & Me (Flume Remix)

Yes, I’ve put my fair share of Disclosure up already but it’s great to see when someone takes a track and totally flips it. Australian post-dubstep (is he? I don’t know what the fuck to call it) producer Flume winds up a massive crank of feel good electronicness in this remix which can only be best described as well prescripted madness. His self titled 2012 album comes highly recommended by me, a strong level of Burial garage influences mixed with some upbeatness offering something genuinely unique.

49. James Blake – Retrograde #newmusicmonday

This is a definite return to form for the high pitched electronic warbler from Enfield. Whilst the album was all doom and gloom, this feels far more euphoric without quite getting back to the madness of CMYK etc.

Measured in its euphoria whilst equally still as introspective as his solo stuff has proven to be, an album of more upbeat and soul influenced stuff like this would be extremely welcome. And with over 600k views in just a week, it’s fair to say the appetite is there.

46. Kanye West feat Pusha T – New God Flow

In honour of Kanye’s abruptly announced shows next weekend at the Hammersmith Apollo, here’s my favourite track from the Cruel Summer G.O.O.D Music album. Show me a better opening line than “I believe there’s a God above me, I’m just the God of everything else” #ego

18. Biffy Clyro – Black Chandelier

Ahhh, good old Cliffy Byro (much better name if you ask me). The new album’s dropping shortly (double album don’t you know) and this is classic Biffy territory. Anthemic, powerful and distinctly “them”, this is down with one of their most radio friendly but also appealing tracks yet.

Let’s see if Matt Cardle covers this.

5. Laura Mvula – She #hotfor2013

No hiding here, she’s on every favourite list for 2013. Like a more robust Corinne Bailey Ray (never liked her voice) with a tinge of Estelle. Got big hopes for her.
