234. Sam Smith – Nirvana

Forthcoming on PMR (home to Disclosure), it’s another luscious, dreamy soundscaper from Sam. “Nirvana” shows off his vocal and emotional range well, taking in tinges of Blackstreet along the way. There’s always a few stand out artists that emerge in the second half of the year and Sam, alongside the likes of John Newman has forged a path for a new type of electronica soul to emerge. No plans for an album have been announced yet but his body of work to date is strong.

48. Rudimental feat MNEK & Syron – Spoons

Rudimental’s trip to chart success has come as a long, drawn out and well earned trip. Having underground hits like “Sexy Sexy” firmly established the foursome as a force to be reckoned with but ultimately, their teaming up with John Newman and drawing on D&B roots really broke them through.

Spooks was released shortly before “Feel The Love” and shows off a very much more understated, producer focused lead. Featuring the hotly tipped MNEK and Syron (Syron was recently the subject of a majors bidding war), this is as purely stripped back house as you could wish for – UK to it’s core, driving with soul and depth.
