An early 80s classic, this surprisingly only ever charted as high as 13 in the UK, despite being one of the most recognisable songs of the era. Ian Curtis committed suicide within the year, another sad tale of genius being the ultimate downfall of a great artist. “Love Will Tear Us Apart” has been covered by everyone from Thom Yorke to Fall Out Boy but the lilting, slightly confusing original still reigns great.
